The Isle of Man sits in the Irish Sea between England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. It is less than 60 miles west of England's Lancashire coastline.

The Isle of Man has competed in every Commonwealth Games since their first appearance at the Cardiff Games in 1958. At these Games Stuart Slack took home a Cycling Bronze in the men’s 120 mile road race.  The same Cycling discipline provided the island with its first Gold in Kingston in 1966. This time Peter Buckley was the hero. In 2006 in Melbourne the Cycling hero was Mark Cavendish who took Gold in the Men's Scratch race. In 2010 in Delhi the Isle of Man came home with 2 Bronze medals in Cycling and Shooting; and won a Cycling Silver at Glasgow 2014.

The responsibility for organising the island's participation in the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games sits with the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association. 

The Island successfully hosted the fourth Commonwealth Youth Games  in 2011. Sixty three nations took part in 7 sports and 112 events.
