The Sports Department is responsible for managing the development of the overall sports strategy and programme of the Commonwealth Games Federation. This includes managing relations with the International Federations (IFs) and the Sport Functional Area of future host cities. The Team is responsible for developing and maintaining the CGF’s Anti-Doping Strategy as well as the strategic planning and operational delivery of bespoke projects and events and the implementation of sports policies, including the sport entry process and sport-related eligibility. This includes liaising with International Federations on sport technical and strategic matters, including the future direction of the sport programme and development of IF Partnership Agreements.
The team also provides oversight and operational support to the Organising Committees of the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games, including monitoring compliance with the sport elements of the Host City Contract; ensuring compliance with IF regulations; competition schedule development; appointment of Technical Officials and publication of sport-related documents. In addition, the team manages and develops the CGF Recognised Sport category, review framework criteria, develops rights and responsibilities and works closely with prospective International Federations and possible new Commonwealth Sport properties.
At present, the team comprises four staff: the Director, and three Sports Managers
